HAVRE, Mont. - CJ Nelson hit a three pointer to break a 10-10 tie and MSU-Northern never trailed again in a 90-68 win over the University of Providence Saturday in Frontier Conference basketball at Havre.
The Lights outshot the Argos 57.6% to 32.4% in the first half as Providence struggled to make shots. For the game, MSU-Northern was 36 of 66 from the field and made 11 three-pointers on 30 attempts. The Argos shot nearly 50% in the second half, finishing 27 of 67 (40.3%), six of 16 from distance and went 8-10 from the free throw line.
Davien Harris-Williams led the Argos with 15 points, Marcus Stephens added 10 while Sam Vining chipped in with nine. Jake Olsen had eight points and seven rebounds in the loss, the second straight for Providence which falls to 13-12 overall, 7-5 in the Frontier.
MSU-Northern was led by Jesse Keltner's double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, Nelson, and Dae'Kwon Watson each had 15 while Zackry Martinez scored 14. The Lights salvaged a 1-2 record against the Argos and sit tied with Providence in the league standings with a 7-5 record. MSU-N moved to 18-7 overall.
The Argos return home for the final two regular season games at the McLaughlin Center battling Montana Western Thursday and No. 12 Montana Tech Saturday.
