GREAT FALLS, Mont. - No. 15 Montana Western shot nearly 70% from the field in the first half and the Bulldogs picked up the season sweep of the University of Providence 78-60 Thursday night in Frontier Conference women's basketball in Great Falls.
Montana Western went 16 of 23 (69.6) from the floor in the first 20 minutes including 81.2% in the second quarter led by Bryley Fitzgerald's 20 points. Fitzgerald scored 15 of Western's 17 first quarter points and 17 of the first 19. The Dillon native finished with 31 points, made 6 of 9 three's and grabbed five rebounds. UMW cooled off to just 50% shooting in the second half and ended the game 29 of 49 (59.2%), 16-30 from the three-point line and 4 of 7 at the free throw line.
Providence shot just 28.6% in the first half including a 2 of 12 effort from beyond the arc. The Argos ended the game shooting 21 of 56 (37.5%) from the field, 5 of 18 from distance and 13-14 from the charity stripe.
In addition to Fitzgerald's game-high 31, Payton Hagy scored 15 going 5-5 from three-point range, while Jordan Sweeney added 13 points.
Leading the Argos who played without Reed Hazard, were Brooklyn Harn and Maddy Dixon who each scored 15 points, Kolby Pimperton added nine with Delaney Pink chipping in with seven points. McKenna Reggear had a team-high six boards. The Argos forced 19 turnovers and were able to convert those into 13 points.
Montana Western (22-4, 10-3) will host MSU-Northern Saturday afternoon in Dillon.
