ASHLAND, Ore. - The University of Providence spent Friday taking on No. 9-ranked Southern Oregon on the softball field looking for an upset or two, but the Argos came up short in their bid, falling to the Raiders 10-0 in 5 innings in game one, 9-3 in game two.

Taylor Mathews had two hits in the second game of the Cascade Conference doubleheader with an RBI while Karlie David had two RBI but a three-run sixth put the game out of reach. Mathews and David teamed up for back-to-back hits to tie the game at two in the top of the third, but the Raiders would score in each of the next four innings to secure the victory.

Carter Thornton went the distance allowing nine runs on 15 hits in six innings. She struck out two and walked four falling to 0-4 on the season. Southern Oregon's Riley Donovan went 3-4 with three RBI. Katie Machado gave up three runs on six hits, striking out six in the complete game victory.

In game one of the day, the Argos were held to just one hit in a 10-0 loss in five innings. Cayla Williams threw just 47 pitches with four strikeouts. Taylor Mathews had the lone hit for Providence. Deven Creech took the loss allowing 10 runs on 13 hits.

The Argos fall to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in CCC play. The same two teams will battle again Saturday in Ashland with the first game counting towards the league standings. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m. MST. Live stats and live stream will be available at www.upargos.com.
