GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The University of Providence took its second Cascade Conference softball series in a row and the Argos took three of four against Corban University (Ore.) to wrap up the regular season Friday in Great Falls.
The Argos spotted the Warriors a 2-0 lead before responding with a two-run fourth inning thanks to an RBI double from Macy Mangold to score Karlie David. Mangold then scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Azia Umphrey to tie the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Carter Thornton brought home two more runs on a single scoring Ryen Palmer and Umphrey to get the 4-2 victory to win the series.
David went 2 for 4 at the plate while Thornton earned her second win in as many days in the circle, tossing a complete game five-hitter with nine strikeouts.
In game two on Senior Day, Providence took a two-run lead thanks to two Warrior errors in the bottom of the first, the broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth when Taylor Mathews launched a solo home run. The homer was part of a 3 for 3 game in her last game in an Argo uniform. Mangold collected two hits and Jaden Williams got the win, tossing five innings allowing two runs on four hits. Deven Creech pitched the final two innings perfectly to get the save.
Providence ends its season 11-31 overall, 6-24 in CCC action. The Argos nearly doubled last season's win total of six and closed the year winning three of the last four and five of seven.
