GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Two days, two splits for the University of Providence against the Knights of Warner Pacific in Cascade Collegiate Conference softball. WPU earned the series win with a 9-2 win in the first game Friday before the Argos picked up a 14-5 win in nonconference action in game two.

Carter Thornton lasted just a third of an inning in the opener giving up six runs on six hits including a three-run home run to start the scoring. Carrigan Foster added a two-run double, and Jovita Laluolo capped the big inning with a run-scoring single. Deven Creech relieved and went the rest of the way allowing three runs on seven hits. Five Knights each collected two hits in the victory.

Foster tossed a complete game seven hitter giving up just two runs with 10 strikeouts. Taylor Mathews (Sr., Helena, Mont.) and Karlie David (Sr., Bay City, Mich.) both finished 3 for 4 combining for six of the Argo's seven hits.

In game two, Thornton started in the circle for Providence going the distance in a game called after the five-inning mercy rule. She allowed five runs on seven hits. Thornton (Sr., Downey, Idaho) was even better at the plate as she belted two home runs and a single to finish 3 for 3 batting, driving in six runs. Mathews added a two-run shot and Makayla Hernandez (Fr., Sun Valley, Calif.) got in on the long ball show with a solo shot. Mathews finished 3 for 4 to go 6 for 8 on the day and David had two hits in game two.

Laluolo started in the circle for the Knights, going three innings giving up six hits and six runs. Foster relieved and allowed eight runs on five hits in 1.1 innings. Laluolo and Christina Barrett added home runs on a windy day in Great Falls. WPU closes the series with a record of 3-24, 3-18.
