PHOENIX, Ariz. – After Thursdays game was canceled due to weather, the men's soccer team got their 2023 season underway against Ottawa University Arizona.

The Spirit (1-0) struck first in the 4th minute with a goal from Peyton Montiel-Villegas to take the 1-0 lead over the Argos (0-1).

UP answered with a goal by Geovanni Lugo who took it all the way before sending it upper 90 for the equalizer. Lugo scored his first career goal in his first game played for the Argos.

Despite a back and forth second half the Spirit added a goal in the 74th minute to take the late lead 2-1. OUAZ would hold off the Argos pressure in the final minutes to hold on for the victory.

The Argos return to action tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. (MST) when they face Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz.
