Argo Volleyball Opens The 2023 Season With Two Victories

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUTTE, Mont. – The University of Providence opened their season with a pair of wins against The Evergreen State College and Arizona Christian University in the Big Sky Challenge Friday. The Argos (2-0) came out on fire, winning the first set 25-15 against the Geoducks (0-3). Sophomore Nina Janjic paved the way for UP tallying five kills in the opening set.

The second set was more of the same as the Argos got out to a 15-3 lead before completing a 25-20 second set victory.

In the third set the Argos pulled away to an early 19-11 lead but the Geoducks made a run to bring it back to 20-18. The Argos would go on to win five of the next seven points to take the third set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

In the first match alone, the Argos had 48 kills and 54 digs. Janjic led the way with 10 kills, junior Taylor Christensen with 20 digs, and junior Nati Slazynska with 24 assists.

In the second match of the day the Argos did not slow down defeating Arizona Christian University (0-3) in three straight sets.

Sophomore Ryann Eddins led the way for the Argos with nine kills and junior Mady Hoerner added eight of her own against the Firestorm.

Despite a back and forth third set where neither side had a lead greater than four, the Argos would pull away at the end winning 25-22 and taking their second match of the day 3-0.

The Argos will be back in action tomorrow with two more match ups at the Big Sky Challenge. UP faces The College of Idaho at 9:00 a.m. and Southwestern Assemblies of God University at 3:00 p.m. at the HPER Complex in Butte, Mont.
