Argos Fall On Final Day Of CSM Labor Day Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The University of Providence volleyball program finished the CSM Labor Day Classic 1-3 after falling in both matches on Saturday.

In the first set of the day, #4 Northwestern College (8-0) jumped out to an early 12-5 lead, but the Argos came storming back to win 10 of the next 12 points to retake the lead 15-14 behind back-to-back kills by senior Zoe Naugle. The Raiders would respond with four aces in a row to gain a five-point edge that they would not relinquish taking the first set 25-18.

The second and third sets saw the Raiders take an early lead and not look back winning 25-12 and 25-17 to extend their set win streak to 24 in a row.  

The second match of the day saw a first set that had 11 ties and five lead changes, but the Flames (11-1) would pull away late to take the first set 25-23.

In the second set the Flames got out to an early 11-7 lead but a kill by Naugle and an ace by freshman Ellie Carlson brought the Argos within one. Saint Mary would score nine of the next 11 points to extend their lead and would hold on to win the set 25-17.

The third set was back and forth with 13 ties and six lead changes. The Flames would take a late 24-22 lead but kills by Naugle and sophomore Ryann Eddins would tie it back up at 24. UP then put away the Flames behind a kill by Mady Hoerner to take the third set 27-25. Junior Nina Janjic led the way for the Argos will five kills in the third.

In the fourth set UP got out to an early 8-4 lead forcing the College of Saint Mary to take a timeout. The Flames would answer back scoring six of seven points to retake the lead 14-13. There would be nine ties the rest of the way, but the Flames would score two in a row to take the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.

The Argos are back in action when they travel to Dillon, Mont. for the Frontier Conference Preseason Tourney. UP will play one match on Thursday, Sept. 14, two matches on Friday, Sept. 15, and one match on Saturday, Sept. 16.
