Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – On a gloomy Friday afternoon, the University of Providence men's soccer team faced off in conference matchup versus Multnomah.
The Argos (4-3) had pressure early on when freshman
Jose Vasquez left the defender behind, but his shot went just over the crossbar.
UP finally broke through when freshman
Geovanni Lugo's cross found a jumping Vasquez who beat the keeper for his fourth goal of the season.
In the 43
rd minute the Argos counterattack worked to perfection forcing a two on one where Lugo's cross once again found Vasquez for his second goal of the first half. UP outshot the Lions eight to five in the first half.
The Argos would strike again in the 54
th minute when freshman
Kabiso Gedeon shot was partially blocked and Vasquez found the rebound for his first career hat trick.
UP would continue their pressure when senior
Jack Rimstad beat the defender and found Vasquez for his fourth goal of the game. With four goals in a single game Vasquez is now tied for the second most goals in a single game in Argo history.
Multnomah would cut into the UP lead in the 74
th minute when a penalty kick by Tomas Espinoza found the back of the net to make it 4-1.
The Lions would pressure late but would be unable to capitalize as the Argos won their first home match of the season 4-1. Head Coach
Will Hander stated, "The guys played really well, and it was great to see Jose put some balls in the back of the net. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's matchup as it will be a great test for us."
The Argos return to action Saturday, Sept. 23 when they host Warner Pacific University. The first touch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Argo Field.
