GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program begins their season this weekend with a trip to Boise, Idaho. The Argos will play Boise State University at 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 28, Utah Valley State at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, and Boise State University on Sept. 30 at 2:00 p.m.
Head coach
Christian Vivian on the weekend's matchups stated, "We're excited to kick off the season with a couple of strong conference opponents and it should be a good test for our group that is still getting used to playing together. I have a lot of confidence in our team and think we can make a mark in this first weekend of games."
Argos will be looking to replace the production that
Cooper Page provided last season. Page had 65 points in his career as an Argo which is third all-time in UP hockey history. Regarding the loss of Page this season Vivan stated, "It's always tough losing top end players like Cooper but we are happy to see them graduate and go on to do great things in life after hockey."
UP is returning a few starters from last year including seniors
Jakob Stevenson,
Ty Alger, and
Braden Bain. Stevenson is entering the season with 71 points which places him fourth all-time in career points in Argo hockey history. He also has 47 assists, which is the second most all-time for the Argos. Alger enters the 2023-2024 season ninth all-time in goals with 15 and is number five in points per game in his career.
The Argos have a few newcomers as well with freshman
Chavez Constant,
AJ Belanger,
Colby Friedrich,
Adam Husli, and
Chris Fines. Vivan on the new recruits stated, "I think we have done a tremendous job of retooling and adding skill and depth for many seasons to come. We will have to learn each other's tendencies and grow to play as a cohesive unit."
After the Argos three game trip to Boise, they will return home and play three games at the Great Falls Ice Plex on Oct. 5-7. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. for all three games.
