9/30/2023 3:44:00 PM

Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – The Argos scored four unanswered goals to defeat Bushnell University 4-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Argos (6-4) had a chance in the 15th minute when freshman Jose Vasquez found freshman Geovanni Lugo, but his shot was batted away by the diving goalie.

UP had another chance in the 36th minute but sophomore Ibrahima Barry could not get enough on the shot, and it was saved by the goalkeeper.

The Argos threatened again late in the first half when Vasquez took a shot from just outside the box, but the Beacons (4-3-2) defense remained strong keeping the match tied at zero. UP had four shots on goal in the first half to Bushnell's zero.

UP came out in the second half putting the pressure on the Beacons resulting in an opportunity for freshman Hugo Gil, but his shot went just wide of the net.

The Argos would finally break through when a corner kick by Lugo found a jumping Vasquez who beat the goalkeeper for his ninth goal of the season.

UP would not let up scoring again two minutes later when Lugo's corner kick went off the goalie and into the back of the net to extend the Argo lead to two.

The Argos would add another in the 70th minute when the UP pressure forced the Beacon defense to kick it back to the goalkeeper and his touch was too much as Vasquez stole the ball and scored his second goal of the game.

UP did not stop there causing another turnover a minute later that found freshman Kabiso Gedeon who took it all the way to beat the goalkeeper and make it 4-0.

Despite late pressure by the Beacons, the Argo defense did not let up a goal winning the match 4-0. Bushnell had only one shot on goal in the full 90 minutes.

Head Coach Will Hander stated, "I'm really proud of how hard our guys played today. We had a few players out and our team truly embodied the next man up mentality. It shows how deep our team is when you can pull guys off the bench and still go out and get the victory."

The Argos return to action Friday, Oct. 6, when they host the College of Idaho. The first touch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Argo Field.
