BILLINGS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell 74-64 to #15 Rocky Mountain College Thursday night.
The Argos (7-8) scored the first points of the game when senior Jake Olsen grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up for a layup.
The Battlin' Bears (10-5) would respond with a three-pointer, but a dunk from Olsen and a fast break layup from senior Davien Harris-Williams gave UP a 6-3 lead.
RMC would answer with a 6-0 run but a three pointer by senior Sam Vining tied the game at nine.
Over the next five minutes Rocky Mountain College would go on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to eight.
Following a pair of baskets by RMC, a layup by Olsen cut the lead to 11 with five minutes remaining in the half.
The Battlin' Bears would end the half on a 7-2 run to go into the break leading 42-24.
Vining would open the second half with a three-pointer, and following a layup by RMC, Harris-Williams would sink a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 15.
The Battlin' Bears would extend their lead to 20, but a pair of threes by Harris-Williams and a jumper by junior Kenny Curtis made it a 14-point game.
RMC would answer with a three, but back-to-back three pointers by senior Jaylin Reed shortened the lead to 12.
Olsen would add a pair of free throws and a fastbreak layup by Curtis made it a 7-0 run for the Argos to bring the game within eight midway through the second half.
RMC would extend the lead back out to 17, but a layup by senior Jevon Burton and a three by Harris-Williams cut the lead to 12 with five minutes remaining.
Despite a late dunk from junior Sam Norum, the Argos would ultimately fall 74-64 to #15 Rocky Mountain College.
The Argos will be back in action Jan. 13 when they host Montana Western. Tip-off versus the Bulldogs is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
