GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program wrapped up the Erck Hotels Classic sponsored by Pro Tech Steel Saturday afternoon with a 84-66 victory over Benedictine University Mesa.
The Argos (2-4) scored the first five points of the game behind a layup from senior Antoine Boyd Jr. and junior Ryan Chavez and following a basket from the RedHawks (4-2), a layup from senior Mike Wright Jr. and a three from Boyd put UP ahead 10-2.
Over the next 10 minutes the Argos slowly extended the lead to 14, and in the final five minutes a pair of layups from senior Jamil Bowles and Boyd gave UP a 45-28 lead heading into halftime.
The RedHawks scored the first points of the second half, but the Argos answered with a 6-0 run to make it 50-31 three minutes into the half.
Benedictine University Mesa crept back into the game over the next seven minutes cutting the lead to 11, but a three from senior Dylan Hushaw made it 60-46 midways through the half.
UP quickly increased their lead out to 20 and despite late pressure from the RedHawks, the Argos defeated Benedictine University Mesa 84-66.
The Argos will be back in action Monday, Dec. 2 when they host the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont.
