GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program punched their ticket to the final site of the NAIA National Tournament with a sweep over the University of the Cumberlands Saturday afternoon.
In the first set against the Patriots (32-6) the Argos (26-6) jumped out to an early 7-1 lead behind kills from juniors
Ryann Eddins,
Sadie Giles and
Bella Green. Following a pair of points from Cumberlands the Argos scored eight straight to take a commanding 15-4 lead. UP cruised the rest of the set taking the first 25-13.
The Patriots scored four of the first six points of the second set but the Argos answered with a 7-2 run off kills from Eddins and junior
Bella Thompson to take an 11-8 edge. The Cumberlands slowly took the lead, scoring 11 of 13 points to make it 21-16. The Argos quickly answered tying the match at 22, and following a point from the Patriots, a kill from Giles secured the second set for UP 25-23.
The third set was back-and-forth early until a 10-3 run from UP behind a pair of kills from Green put UP in front 15-8. The Patriots would cut the lead to three, but UP scored the final four points of the set behind a block from sophomore
Cabry Taylor and Thompson to secure the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
Eddins and Green totaled seven kills while Eddins added eight for the Argos. Thompson tallied 25 assists and Saiers and Giles each added 12 digs. Â
The Argos are back in action Dec. 3-8 at the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa at the Tysons Event Center. Â
