Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program defeated the College of Idaho 71-61 Friday night.
The Argos (7-2) scored the first points of the game off free throws from senior Ashlee Maldonado and following a basket from the Yotes (2-2), a three pointer from senior Kolby Pimperton put UP ahead 5-2.
 Each side would add a three pointer but layups from Maldonado and sophomore Taliah Lee pushed the Argos lead out to seven midways through the first quarter.
The Yotes slowly tied the game at 14 over the next five minutes but a floater from Maldonado at the buzzer put UP ahead 16-14 after the first.
The College of Idaho quickly took the lead to open the second quarter outscoring the Argos by five over the first three minutes to take a 28-21 edge.
The Argos chipped away the rest of the quarter with layups from sophomores Keanna Salave'a and Eliannah Ramirez cutting the College of Idaho lead to one going into halftime.
UP opened the second half with a three from Maldonado, and following a basket from the Yotes, a jumper from Monique Carter and layups from Maldonado and Lee put UP in front 44-40.
Both teams went back-and-forth the rest of the quarter but a three from junior Camryn Cartwright with 15 seconds left put UP ahead 57-49 heading into the fourth.
The Yotes started the quarter with a pair of buckets to cut the Argo lead to four, but a three from Cartwright and a layup from junior Ainsley Thurber pushed the Argo lead out to nine with seven minutes remaining.
The College of Idaho would pressure late to cut the lead to back down to five, but a layup from Salave'a and free throws from Maldonado secured the 71-61 victory for the Argos.
Maldonado led the way for UP with 20 points and Lee and Salave'a added 12 and 11, respectively.
The Argos will be back in action Dec. 17, when they travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. (MST) versus Olivet Nazarene University.
