Kobi Johnson defeated returning NJCAA National Champion Ane'e Vigil. UP also saw freshman
Spencer Johnson take first place at the Mountaineer Open where he picked up a ranked win over #12 Michael Moreno.

The Northern Lights were ranked #19 in the preseason NAIA Top 20 poll after finishing 21
st at the NAIA National Championships last season. MSU-Northern had five wrestlers ranked in the preseason rankings including #22 Justin Windauer at 157, #16 Devin Crawford at 165, #3 Rylin Burns and #7 Austin Vanek at 184, and #19 Shane Mattson at 285.
