CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell to #4 Arizona Christian 88-58 Tuesday night.
The Argos (4-7) scored the first basket of the game off a jumper from senior Mike Wright Jr., but the Firestorm (10-2) scored seven straight to give Arizona Christian an early five-point lead.
Both teams traded baskets over the next 10 minutes until an 11-2 run from the Firestorm put Arizona Christian ahead 27-12.
The Argos responded with a pair of threes from juniors Brendan Redhead and Ryan Chavez, but a pair of baskets from Arizona Christian kept the Firestorm ahead 31-18.
The Argos added a three from Chavez, but the Firestorm outscored the Argos 16-7 the rest of the half as UP trailed Arizona Christian 47-28 going into the break.
Each side went back-and-forth to begin the second half until six straight from the Firestorm put Arizona Christian in front 58-33.
The Firestorm slowly extended their lead out to 27, and despite late pressure from the Argos, UP fell to #4 Arizona Christian 88-58.
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 28 when they travel to Billings, Mont. for a neutral site matchup with Dickinson State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Fortin Education Center.
