DILLON, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell to Montana Western 83-67 Thursday night.
The Argos (10-11) scored the first basket of the game after senior Jake Olsen stole the ball from Abi Adedo and hit a jumper on the other end. Â
The Bulldogs (11-10) would hit a jumper of their own, but back-to-back baskets by Olsen gave UP a 6-2 lead.
Each side would trade baskets over the next 10 minutes with neither team gaining a lead by more than four.
Montana Western would take their first lead of the game with eight minutes remaining in the half and would slowly extend their advantage out to five until a pair of threes from senior Freddy Brown III and free throws from senior Jaylin Reed retook the lead for UP 33-32.
The game would be tied at 35 and 37 before free throws by Reed gave the Argos a 39-37 lead going into the break. Olsen led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds in the first half.
The Bulldogs would start the second half on a 10-0 run to take a 47-39 lead, but a jumper by senior Jevon Burton and a layup by junior Kenny Curtis kept the game within six.
Both teams would go back and forth but the Bulldogs continued to match the Argos baskets maintaining an eight-point lead midway through the second half.
Over the next three minutes Montana Western increased their lead to 17 and despite a late three from senior Eric Milner, the Argos fell to the Bulldogs 83-67.
The Argos will be back in action Feb. 3 when they host MSU-Northern. Tip-off versus the Skylights is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont. Â
