HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell to Carroll College 89-74 Thursday night.
The Fighting Saints (16-9) scored the first basket off a jumper from the baseline, but senior Jake Olsen would answer with a turnaround jumper to tie the game at two.
Carroll College would add a three, but a layup from senior Jevon Burton and a three-pointer from senior Davien Harris-Williams gave the Argos (12-13) an early 7-5 lead.
Following a basket from the Fighting Saint a three-pointer from Burton kept the Argos ahead by three.
Carroll would answer with a 13-2 run but layups from Burton and senior Jaylin Reed made it 20-16.
Both sides would go back and forth until a pair of baskets from Carroll increased the Fighting Saints lead to 11.
The Argos would cut the lead to seven behind free throws from Harris-Williams but a late three from Carroll put the Fighting Saints ahead 46-34 at halftime.
The Argos scored the first basket of the second half off a layup from Harris-Williams and after baskets from both teams a three from Reed cut the Carroll lead to 11.
The Fighting Saints would extend the lead out to 16, but a 4-0 run behind free throws from senior Freddy Brown III cut the lead to 11 midways through the second half.
Carroll would push the lead back out to 18 and despite a late jumper from Harris-Williams, the Argos fell to Carroll College 89-74.
The Argos will be back in action Feb. 17 when host Montana Western. Tip-off versus the Bulldogs is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the McLaughlin Center.
