HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program fell to #8 Carroll College 62-47 Thursday night.
The Argos (16-8) scored the first basket of the game when senior Maddy Dixon caught the ball in the post and stepped past the defender for a layup.
The Fighting Saints (20-4) would tie the game with a layup on the other end, but a 5-0 run behind free throws from freshman Keanna Salave'a and Monique Carter gave the Argos a 7-2 lead.
Carroll would slowly cut into the Argo lead the rest of the first quarter as the Argos went into the second leading 14-12.
Each side would trade baskets with neither team getting a lead by more than two until a layup from Carter put the Argos ahead 22-18.
Following a three from the Fighting Saints, Kolby Pimperton hit her second three of the game to keep the Argos up by four.
Carroll would finish the half on a 5-1 run to tie the game at 26 going into the break. Pimperton led the way for the Argos with eight points in the first half.
The Fighting Saints would open the third quarter with a 6-0 run but a layup from Salave'a made it a four-point game.
Carroll would extend their lead out to seven but a three from freshman Eliannah Ramirez and free throws from Salave'a cut it to two midways through the quarter.
The Fighting Saints would increase their lead back out to nine, but a jumper from Pimperton kept the game within seven.
Both teams would add free throws as the Argos went into the fourth quarter trailing Carroll 45-39.
The Fighting Saints would open the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run and despite a late layup from sophomore Katelyn Heideman, the Argos fell to Carroll College 62-47.
The Argos will be back in action Feb. 17 when host Montana Western. Tip-off versus the Bulldogs is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the McLaughlin Center.
