MINOT, ND. - - The University of Providence softball program went 1-1 on their final day in Minot defeating Dakota Wesleyan 10-2 and falling to MSU-Moorhead 5-4.
In game one against Dakota Wesleyan the Argos jumped out in front in the bottom of the first when senior
Deven Creech doubled over the right fielder's head to score graduate transfer
Madi Moore from second.
Senior
Azia Umphrey made it back-to-back RBI doubles for UP pulling an off-speed pitch down the left field line to score pinch runner
Ella Galloway from second base.
In the bottom of the second the Argos would keep adding runs with an RBI double from Moore to left center and a single to left by senior
Macy Mangold to make it 4-0.
Two batters later junior
Sydnee Weber would hit the Argos fourth double of the game scoring another two runs for UP, and the Argos would make it five runs in the inning after
Deven Creech singled to right.
The Argos would add another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when sophomore
Jaden Ruiz doubled down the left field line to score junior
Ryen Palmer.
In the bottom of the sixth
Azia Umphrey tallied her third RBI of the game doubling to left field to walk the game off via run rule and secure the 10-2 victory for the Argos. Moore threw all six innings and struck out seven while seven different Argos recorded an RBI in the victory.
In game two against MSU-Moorhead the Argos fell behind 2-0 but in the bottom of the third Weber would tally her fifth and sixth RBIs of the weekend hitting a single to left field to score Moore and junior
Sierra Main.
The Argos would take the lead the very next batter after Creech singled to right field to make it 3-2.
The Dragons added two runs in the top of the seventh, and despite the Argos getting the tying runner on base, UP was unable to get the equalizer across falling to MSU-Moorhead 5-4.
