Argo Athletics Announces Five New Members for 2024 Hall of Fame

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence has announced that five new members will be joining the Argo Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024. Arunas Duda, Erin Legel, Anthony Varnell, Madison Wilhelm, and Alex Lowry will be the newest members enshrined during Argo Weekend.

Arunas Duda will be entering his 21st season as the head coach of the University of Providence Volleyball program in 2024-2025. Duda has a career record of 361-247 and has five regular season Frontier Conference Championships and four Frontier Conference Tournament Championships. Duda has been to the NAIA National Tournament four times and has coached 13 All-Americans in his tenure as an Argo. Arunas is the second coach in the history of the University of Providence volleyball program and has coached over 30 all-region and 60 all-conference athletes.

Anthony Varnell is from Spokane, Wash. where at Lewis and Clark High School he had a record of 110-11. Varnell is one of three wrestlers to win a National Championship at the University of Providence, and he is the only athlete to ever win two (2011, 2012). Varnell was a two-time NJCAA All-American and a NWCA All-Academic Team Member prior to transferring to the University of Great Falls in 2011. Anthony was 12-1 his senior season and was part of the teams that placed fourth and sixth at the NAIA National Championships, respectively.

Erin Legel is the all-time leading scorer for men's and women's basketball at the University of Providence. Legel led the Argos to the programs first and second elite eight appearances and was also a three-time All-American. Legel holds eight school records and is in the record book a total of 23 times as the most decorated athlete in the history of the program. Legel is #1 in career points, #2 in career assists, #4 in career rebounds, #4 in career steals, #4 in career points per game, and #1 in career free throw percentage.

Alex Lowry played softball at the University of Providence and is the programs career record holder in all offensive categories. Her career batting average of .353, career home runs of 25, career slugging percentage of .598, 103 career runs batted in, and 151 career hits are all #1 in program history. Lowry played from 2012-2016 and helped lead the Argos to the CCC semifinal in 2015 and the NAIA National Tournament her senior season.

Madison Wilhelm is one of nine athletes to be named an All-American in the history of the University of Providence volleyball program. Wilhelm was a three-time first team all-conference selection, a member of the 2016 AVCA Northwest All-Region Team, and was the 2013 Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year. Wilhelm is #1 all time in career kills, #4 in career digs, #7 in career blocks, and has the record for most kills in a single game with 32.
