GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence women's soccer team
defeated the University of Lethbridge 4-2 on Thursday afternoon.
The Pronghorns had the first chance of the game in the third minute when Viktoria Birglechner found Chiara Duenser in front of the net and was able to beat the goalkeeper to put Lethbridge ahead 1-0.
The Argos (1-1) had a chance to even it up a minute later, but sophomore
Shea Waters' shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
A few minutes later the Pronghorns added another goal when Vikotira Birglechner buried the penalty kick.
UP would continue to pressure until senior
Rane Jackson took advantage of an out of position goalie and put one into the back of the net to cut the Pronghorn lead in half.
In just over a minute later Jackson found senior
Ernestina S. Ofori who got around the defender and buried her shot to tie the game at two in the 24th minute.
In the 31st minute the Argos grabbed their first lead of the game when senior
Malan Flygare's free kick was batted around in the box and found sophomore
Gabby McVay who punched it in to give the Argos a 3-2 lead.
Neither side would threaten the rest of the half as the Argos took a 3-2 lead into the break.
The second half was back-and-forth throughout until Waters gave sophomore
Kailey Camper a lead pass, and after a misplay by the goalkeeper, Camper shot it into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.
UP maintained control the rest of the way as the Argos won their home opener for the second year in a row, 4-2.
The Argos will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 5 when travel to Providence Christian College. The first touch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (MST) in Pasadena, Calif. Â Â Â Â
