HELENA, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program cruised to a victory in their Frontier Conference opener defeating Carroll College 3-0 Friday night.
In the first set against the Fighting Saints (10-2) both sides traded points early until a 5-2 run for Carroll forced an Argos (10-2) timeout. Carroll would extend their lead out to five, but the Argos would answer with an 8-0 run behind blocks from senior
Nina Janjic and junior
Sadie Giles to take a 21-18 lead. UP would maintain that edge the rest of the way as the Argos took the first set 25-20. Â
UP jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the second set behind kills from Janjic and sophomores
Cabry Taylor and
Martyna Fiedler. The Fighting Saints would tie the set at six but a 6-1 run from UP pushed the Argo lead out to five. Despite a late run from Carroll, UP would score the final four points of the set to take the second 25-17.
The Argos were able to get out to a 5-2 lead in the third set courtesy of kills from Janjic and junior
Franny Martins. The Fighting Saints would bring the match within two, but kills from Giles, Janjic, and Taylor secured the set 25-16 and the match 3-0. Janjic led the way for UP with 16 kills and junior
Bella Thompson had 38 assists while senior
Ava Saiers added 22 digs.
The Argos are back in action Sept. 19 when they head to Billings, Mont. UP will face RV Rocky Mountain College at 7:00 p.m. at the Fortin Education Center. Â Â
