Argos Travel to NWCA National Duals

MANHEIM, Pa.– The University of Providence women's wrestling team heads to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the NWCA National Duals on Jan. 10-11. The Argos first match versus #14 Texas Wesleyan is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. (MST) in the Uni-Dome.
 
Last Time Out
#1 Erin Hikiji was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the North Central College Invitational after dominating the #1, #5, and #8 ranked NCAA wrestlers. Hikiji was also named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season.
 
Rankings
The Argos were ranked #4 in the latest NAIA Top 20 poll and have 12 wrestlers ranked in the top 20 including #1 Erin Hikiji (103), #1 Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp (138), #4 Paige Morales (110), #7 Alyssa Randles (124), #8 Aspen Dodge (145), #9 Isa Bocanegra (103), #9 Paige Respicio (138), #9 Esther Han (145), #16 Kayla Shota (110), #17 Kacey Lee Pua (160), #19 Isabelle Asuncion (117), and #20 Alicia Frank (124).
 
National Duals
The Argos are one of 16 teams invited to the NWCA National Duals based on their standing at last year's NAIA National Championships. UP goes into the tournament as the #4 seed and will wrestle in the round of 16 at 1:30 p.m. (MST) on Friday.
 
Last Year
The Argos placed fourth at National Duals last season for the highest finish in program history. After defeating #14 Oklahoma City in the round of 16, the Argos pulled off a buzzer beating victory over #4 Southern Oregon when #8 Lexi Tupuola pinned #9 Shenita Lawson with under thirty seconds remaining in the match to advance the Argos to the semifinals with a 22-21 victory.
 
Texas Wesleyan
The Rams were ranked #14 in the latest NAIA top 20 poll and have five wrestlers ranked in the top 20 including #1 Camille Fournier at 117 and #2 Samantha Barragan at 138. This is the second straight year the Argos will face Texas Wesleyan at National Duals after the Argos fell to the Rams in the third-place match last season.
