GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell to Bushnell University 99-66 Friday night.
The Beacons (1-0) scored the first baskets of the game but a pair of free throws from junior Marvel Chambers Jr. on the other end tied it at two.
Both teams traded points until back-to-back threes gave the Beacons a six-point edge, but a jumper from junior Marcus Lawson and a three-pointer from junior Jermaine Rogers II brought the Argos (0-3) within one.
Each side went back-and-forth until a 17-4 run from Bushnell put the Beacons ahead 40-24 with just over four minutes remaining in the first half.
The Argos put together a run over the final minutes with a three from senior Jakub Lloyd and a jumper from freshman Brady Bantz to cut the lead to 11 heading into the break.
Bushnell quickly extended their lead to 14 to open the second half, and following a pair of baskets from the Argos, an 8-2 stretch from the Beacons put Bushnell ahead 71-48.
The Beacons continued to stay hot, stretching the lead to 30, and despite a late three from Rogers II, UP fell to Bushnell 99-66.
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 1 when they host Simpson University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont.
