GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence women's soccer
program scored five unanswered goals to defeat The Evergreen State College 5-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Geoducks (0-8) had the first opportunity of the game when Madeline Dorendorf found Izzy Widener in front of the goal, and she chipped it past the goalkeeper to put Evergreen ahead 1-0.
Two minutes later the Argos (4-3-2) answered when
Shea Waters sent the ball ahead to senior
Kailey Camper and she buried her shot to tie the game at one.
Both teams went back-and-forth over the next thirty minutes until Waters put the ball into the box and it bounced off the Evergreen goalkeeper's hands and sophomore
Kara Wiley tapped it into the back of the net to give UP a 2-1 edge heading into the break.
The Argos pressured out of halftime and in the 49
th minute Camper sent a rolling ball across the box, and it went through all of the Evergreen defenders to hit sophomore
Peyton Schmauch who chipped it into the empty net to extend the UP lead to two.
Each side had a few chances over the next thirty minutes, but the Argos would add another two goals in the final seven with Camper and Schmauch scoring their second goals of the game to secure the Argos 5-1 victory over The Evergreen State College. Â
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Oct. 10 when they travel to Klamath Falls, Ore. The first touch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (MST) versus Oregon Tech. Â Â Â
