Argos Defeat #6 Bellevue to Win Second Straight Frontier Conference Championship

HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program defeated #6 Bellevue 3-1 to win their second straight Frontier Conference Tournament Championship Saturday night.

In the first the Argos (31-2) jumped out to an early 8-4 lead behind kills from juniors Cabry Taylor, Martyna Fiedler, and senior Sadie Giles. UP continued their momentum extending the lead out to 10 and following a late 4-1 run from the Bruins (26-4), the Argos scored the final three points of the set off kills from Giles and Fiedler to secure the first set for UP 25-14.

The Bruins got out to a 6-3 lead to begin the second set but a 7-2 run by the Argos behind kills from seniors Bella Thompson, Kiyana Faupula, and Franny Martins put UP in front 13-10. Bellevue quickly tied the set at 13, but the Argos rolled down the stretch ending the second on a 9-3 run with a kill from senior Bella Green taking the second set 25-19.

The third set was back-and-forth with neither side grabbing a lead by more than three until a 4-1 stretch from the Argos behind a pair of kills from Green gave UP a 14-10 edge. Bellevue quickly answered to tie the set at 14, and there would be ties at 17, 18, 19, and 20 before the Bruins pulled away down the stretch, scoring the final two points of the set to take the third 25-23.

Neither side could take control of the fourth set until a 7-1 run from the Argos off an ace from Giles and kills from Fiedler and Green put UP in front 22-15. Following a point from the Bruins, the Argos rattled off three in row to secure the fourth set 25-16, and the match 3-0.

Green and Fiedler led the way with 17 and 13 kills, respectively, senior Bella Thompson totaled 49 assists, and junior Kyra Saiers had a team high 22 digs.

The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 22 for the first round of the NAIA National Championships.
