Argos Defeat Bellevue in Double Overtime Thriller

BELLEVUE, Neb. – The University of Providence women's basketball program defeated Bellevue University 74-71 in double overtime Saturday night.

The Argos (4-2) scored the five points of the game behind a jumper from junior Eliannah Ramirez and a three from senior Ainsley Thurber, but a layup on the other end from the Bruins (3-4) made it 5-2.

Both sides went back and forth until Bellevue ended the first on a 10-3 run as the Argos went into the break trailing 19-14.

The Argos started the second quarter with five-straight off a three from Camryn Cartwright and a jumper from senior McKenna Reggear, but a layup and a free throw from the Bruins gave Bellevue a 22-19 edge.

Both teams traded baskets for the rest of the half with a free throw from Sofia Mokofisi cutting the deficit to 27-26 heading into halftime.

Neither side could grab a lead by more than three to begin the second half until a 7-0 run from the Argos behind layups from Reggear, freshman Madi Reibel, and a three from senior Katie Fleming put UP ahead 39-32.

The Bruins answered ending the third with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the Argo lead to one heading into the fourth.

Bellevue continued their momentum getting out to a four-point advantage to begin the fourth, but the Argos responded with a three from Ramirez and a jumper from Reggear to take a 57-56 lead with just over two minutes remaining.

The Bruins added a free throw to tie the game at 57 and neither side could find the go-ahead basket as the game went to overtime tied at 57.

Neither side could grab a lead by more than two in overtime with the Argos taking a 66-64 lead following a layup from Reibel, but the Bruins added a layup with one second remaining to send the game to double overtime tied at 66.

Following three lead changes over the first three minutes, a layup from Reibel put the Argos ahead 72-71 with 40 seconds remaining.

The Bruins would miss a three on the next possession and Reibel closed the game out from the free throw line as the Argos defeated Bellevue 74-71 in double overtime.

Three Argos reached double figures in freshman Madi Reibel with 19 points, senior Ainsley Thurber added 14, and junior Eliannah Ramirez with 13.

The Argos will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 30 when they host Stephens College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont.
