Argos Come Up Short Versus Dakota State

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence men's basketball team fell to Dakota State 92-72 Saturday night.

The Trojans (11-1) scored the first basket of the game but a jumper from senior Brendan Redhead and a layup from junior Marcus Lawson put the Argos (1-12) in front 4-2.

Following baskets from both teams Dakota State quickly responded with a 9-0 run to take a 13-7 lead, but a layup from sophomore Quinn Swanson kept Argos within four.

Both teams traded baskets over the next 10 minutes until a three from Lawson and a layup from Swanson shortened the Dakota State lead to 25-24.

The Trojans slowly stretched the advantage out to 10 but three-pointers from Redhead and junior Jermaine Rogers II made it 42-40 with just over a minute remaining in the half.

Each side would add a pair of baskets over the final minute as the Argos went into the break trailing 47-44.

The Argos opened up the scoring in the second half with a layup from sophomore Anthony Hobbs, and following a three from the Trojans, a layup from senior Jakub Lloyd made it 50-48.

Over the next seven minutes the Trojans inched the lead out to eight but an and one from Swanson and a jumper from Redhead cut the lead to 66-63.

Dakota State would not let up increasing the lead to 12, and despite a late and one from Swanson, the Argos fell to the Trojans 92-72.

Three Argos reached double-digit scoring with sophomore Quinn Swanson leading the way with 23, senior Brendan Redhead tallied 15, and junior Jermaine Rogers II added 11.

The Argos will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 18 when they host Northwestern Polytechnic for an exhibition. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont.
