SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The University of Providence women's volleyball program saw their season come to a close with a five-set loss to #3 Concordia University (Neb.) in the NAIA Quarterfinals Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (28-3) jumped out to an early 11-5 lead in the first set and would continue their momentum extending the advantage out to nine. The Argos (34-3) answered bringing the set within three behind kills from junior
Cabry Taylor and senior
Bella Thompson, but the Bulldogs scored three of the last four to take the first set 25-20.
In the second set the Argos grabbed the early 5-2 lead off kills from seniors
Franny Martins and
Sadie Giles, but the Bulldogs slowly clawed back tying the set at 15. There would be ties at 18 and 19 but the Bulldogs scored four of the last six points of the set to take the second 25-22.
The Argos took an early 5-2 lead once again in the third set behind kills from Taylor and senior
Bella Green, but the Bulldogs responded by tying the set at six. Both teams went back-and-forth until a 9-3 run from the Argos off a pair of kills from Giles and an ace from freshman
Heather Barbee gave UP a 20-11 edge. The Argos traded points the rest of the set with a kill from senior
Kiyana Faupula securing the third for UP 25-15.
In the fourth set the Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-1 lead but the Argos slowly cut into the advantage with kills from Giles and Taylor to tie it at 10. Each side went back-and-forth with ties at 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 before a block by Thompson and Giles and a kill from Taylor took the fourth set for UP 27-25.
In the deciding set neither side could gain a lead by more than two until a 4-1 run from the Bulldogs put Concordia ahead 10-7. The Argos battled back to bring the set within two behind kills from Faupula and Taylor, but UP was unable to close the gap as the Argos fell in the fifth set to Concordia University 15-12, and the match 3-2.

Sadie Giles with 14, junior
Cabry Taylor with 12, and senior
Kiyana Faupula with 10. Senior
Bella Thompson totaled 53 assists, and junior
Kyra Saiers had a team high 23 digs.
The Argos wrap up an unforgettable season where they advanced to their second NAIA Quarterfinal in program history, won back-to-back Frontier Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships, and set a new program record with 34 wins.
