GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence women's basketball team dominated Dickinson State defeating the Blue Hawks 65-40 Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Hawks (3-7) scored the first basket of the game but the Argos (7-2) answered with 11 straight behind layups from senior Ainsley Thurber and juniors Brooke Dial and Eliannah Ramirez to put UP in front 11-2.
The Argos traded baskets the rest of the quarter with a layup from freshman Madi Reibel putting UP ahead 21-9 heading into the break.
Over the first five minutes of the second quarter the Blue Hawks slowly trimmed the lead down to five, but the Argos ended the half on a 14-5 run with layups from Dial and senior Sofia Mokofisi giving UP a 40-25 edge heading into halftime.
The Argos opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run behind a pair of threes from Ramirez and senior Camryn Cartwright, and UP would slowly extend their lead the rest of the quarter with a layup from freshman Dymon Root putting UP ahead 56-31 heading into the fourth.
A layup from senior Ainsley Thurber extended the Argo lead to 27 to begin the fourth, and despite a late flurry from the Blue Hawks, UP defeated Dickinson State 65-40.
Junior Eliannah Ramirez led the way for the Argos with 18 points and eight rebounds while senior Ainsley Thurber added 12 points and seven rebounds. Â
The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 12 when they host Bellevue University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont.
