Argos Fall to Montana Tech in Frontier Conference Championship

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell 69-50 to Montana Tech in the Frontier Conference Tournament Championship Tuesday night.

The Argos (16-14) scored the first points of the game off a three from junior Ryan Chavez, but the Orediggers (24-6) responded outscoring the Argos 14-4 to take a 14-7 lead.

The Argos answered with a three from senior Antoine Boyd Jr. and free throws from senior Jamil Bowles to keep the Argos within striking distance midway through the first half.

The Orediggers continued to slowly extend the lead out to 11 but scores from senior Dylan Hushaw and Bowles cut the Argo deficit to seven with two minutes remaining in the half.

The Argos maintained that margin the rest of the half and a three quarters court buzzer beater from Boyd Jr. made it a four-point game going into the break.

The Argos struck first to start the second with a jumper from Bowles to bring UP within two, but a 22-8 run from the Orediggers gave Montana Tech an 18-point lead with nine minutes left in the half.

The Argos continued to fight with threes from Wright Jr., Chavez, and freshman Quinn Swanson, but the Argos were unable to close the gap as UP fell in the Frontier Conference Tournament Championship 69-50.

The Argos will await their fate on Thursday, March 4 when the NAIA releases the 64-team bracket for the NAIA National Championships.
