Walk-Off Win Pushed the Argos Past Bushnell

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence softball program defeated Bushnell University 7-6 and 9-8 Sunday afternoon.

In game one the Beacons (8-24) got on the board first, scoring five runs over the first four innings behind four RBIs from Sara and Ashlyn Martin, but in the bottom of the fifth the Argos (8-19) answered with a double from senior Kolbi wood and a SAC fly from Tehneson Ehnes to bring the game within four.

The Argos did not stop there scoring another two runs in the bottom of the sixth when a fielder's choice from senior Olivia Roe scored sophomore Tiffany Fuentes, and an RBI single from senior Sydney Wilting made it a two-run game.

Trailing by two heading into the bottom of the seventh, senior Brynn Cullen singled to left field to score Sydnee Weber and Ehnes to tie the game at two. With the winning runner standing on second Olivia Roe stepped to the plate and delivered a walk-off double to left center as UP defeated Bushnell 9-8.

In game two the Beacons once again scored the first runs of the game pushing across three runs in the top of the first behind solo home runs from Valerie Richardson and Ashlyn Martin, but in the bottom half the Argos responded scoring five of their own off RBI's from Ehnes, freshman Ella Galloway, and a two-run home run from Fuentes to take a 5-3 lead.

The Argos continued their momentum into the bottom of the third where a single by Roe and a steal play from Wood pushed the Argo lead out to four.

The Beacons added a run in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom half a two-run home run from Weber put UP ahead 9-4.

Bushnell slowly cut into the Argo lead with solo home runs in the fifth and the sixth inning, and despite the tying runner getting to third in the top of the seventh, Ehnes struck out Brenna Wilson for her first career save to secure the 9-8 victory.
