Madi Reibel's Career High Pushes Argos Past Mystics

BISMARCK, N.D. -- The University of Providence women's basketball team defeated Bismarck State College 90-68 Friday night.

The Argos (13-9) scored the first three points of the game behind a layup from junior Brooke Dial and a free throw from senior Ainsley Thurber, but seven straight on the other end from the Mystics (6-13) gave Bismarck State a four-point edge.

Each team went back-and-forth the rest of the quarter with a pair of free throws from freshman Madi Reibel gave UP a 15-14 lead heading into the break.

The Argos pushed their lead out to six over the first five minutes of the second quarter behind a layup from Reibel and a three from junior Eliannah Ramirez, but the Mystics answered with an 8-2 run to tie the game at 27.

The Argos outscored the Mystics 10-2 the rest of the quarter off layups from Reibel, senior Sofia Mokofisi, and freshman Layne Rogel to put UP in front 37-29 heading into halftime.

Bismarck State slowly cut into the Argo lead to begin the second half bringing the game within one, and following baskets from both teams, a pair of free throws from Reibel and Rogel gave UP a 54-50 lead.

Both teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter with a pair of lead changes but a triple from Reibel as time expired put UP in front 62-59 heading into the fourth.

The Argos pushed the lead out to 16 over the first six minutes of the fourth quarter behind three-pointers from Reibel, senior Camryn Cartwright, and Ramirez, and despite a few late baskets from the Mystics, the Argos defeated Bismarck State 90-68.

Five Argos reached double-figure scoring with freshman Madi Reibel leading the way for the Argos with a career high 22 points, freshman Layne Rogel and junior Brooke Dial scored 15 apiece, junior Eliannah Ramirez with 14, and senior Ainsley Thurber added 10.
