HELENA, Mont. -- The University of Providence women's basketball team fell to #25 Carroll College 53-46 Friday night.
The Argos (15-10) scored the first basket of the game off a layup from junior Brooke Dial but eight-straight from the Fighting Saints (16-9) put Carroll College ahead by six.
Each side went back-and-forth the rest of the quarter with a layup from freshman Layne Rogel shortening the Carroll advantage to 25-17 heading into the break.
The Fighting Saints pushed the lead out to 12 to begin the second quarter but a pair of layups from Rogel trimmed the lead to seven with three minutes left in the half.
Both teams traded baskets for the rest of the half but a layup from the Fighting Saints put Carroll College in front 36-26 at halftime.
The Fighting Saints opened the second half with a 6-0 run but a triple from senior Camryn Cartwright and a layup from freshman Dymon Root made it 44-33 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Carroll did not go away extending the lead out to 13, and despite a late run from the Argos behind baskets from junior Eliannah Ramirez and senior Ainsley Thurber to cut the lead to seven, UP fell to the Fighting Saints 53-46.
The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 14 when they head to Billings, Mont. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (MST) versus #23 Rocky Mountain College. Â Â Â
