2/6/2026 4:03:00 PM

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. – The University of Providence hockey program fell 5-4 in overtime to the University of Montana Friday afternoon.

The Griz (13-14-1) scored the first goal of the game 17 seconds into the contest but the Argos (17-8-3) answered four minutes into the second period when sophomore Jamal Shaw found sophomore Kage Yellowfly and his wrist shot found the back of the net to tie the game at one.

The Argos continued their momentum scoring five minutes later when on a penalty shot attempt junior Fabian Vik deked the goaltender to put UP ahead 2-1.

Montana added a goal with three minutes remaining in the second period to tie the game at two and the Griz did not take their foot off the gas, adding another pair of goals midway through the third to take a 4-2 lead.

The Argos answered late in the third period when senior Colby Friedrich's slap shot squeaked past the screened goaltender and with the goalie pulled for the final two minutes the puck was loose in front of the Grizzlies net and sophomore Daniel Tainton shot it off the goaltenders back and into the goal to tie the game at four with 1:17 remaining.

Neither side threatened over the final 77 seconds but just over a minute into overtime the Griz scored a breakaway goal as UP fell to Montana 5-4.

The Argos will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 20 when they head back to Salt Lake City, Utah for the ACHA D2 West Regional Tournament.
