WICHITA, Kan. -- The University of Providence men's wrestling program had two athletes reach the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament on Thursday.

Junior Pig Hobbs pinned Jordan Tobias in 1:33 in Championship Round One and then defeated Cole Zoller 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament for the second straight season. Hobbs will wrestle #1 John Wiley tomorrow in the quarterfinals.

Senior Ethan DeRoche defeated Caleb Pruitt 4-2 in Championship Round One and then upset #3 Austin Foye 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals. DeRoche will wrestle #6 Antonio Garcia tomorrow in the quarterfinals.

The Argos also saw two other athletes win in round one and have five total athletes still alive on the backside of the bracket in seniors Kobi Johnson, Blaze Sumiye, and juniors Jalen Vladic, Irish Furthmyre, and Noah Poe-Hatten.

Kobi Johnson pinned Wyatt Engwicht in 48 seconds in Championship Round One then fell to Braden Ledford 2-1. On the backside of the bracket Johnson defeated Aiden Woods 5-4 to advance to Friday.

Jalen Vladic pinned Hayden Santora in 4:33 in Championship Round One but fell to #3 Zander Ernst 9-4 in round two. In the consolation bracket Vladic defeated Graham Kilpper 7-1 to advance to Friday where he will face #11 Justin Windauer.

Irish Furthmyre fell to #3 Douglas Terry 8-0 in the opening round but rallied to defeat Ryan Graves 15-6 and Drake Jenkins 21-3 on the backside of the bracket. Furthmyre will wrestle #12 Cayleb Atkins tomorrow.

Blaze Sumiye fell to #8 Jovon Mitchell 8-7 in the opening round but defeated Joel Campbell 11-8 and Derrick Bannister 4-2 to stay alive for day two at the National Tournament tomorrow.

Noah Poe-Hatten fell to #2 Kendall Norfleet in the opening round but then defeated Logan Heckert 13-10 and Justin Bartee 11-1 on the backside to advance to day two at the National Tournament.

The Argos will be back in action tomorrow for the NAIA National Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. Wrestlers will begin at 10:00 a.m. (MST) at the Heartland Credit Union Arena.
