Alix Bishop Breaks Home Run Record in Argos Victory Over Vikings

VALLEY CITY, N.D. -- The University of Providence softball program split with Valley City State to wrap up the Frontier Conference regular season on Saturday.
 
The Vikings (25-24) scored the first runs of the contest putting up a three-spot in the bottom of the third, but the Argos (27-22) answered with an RBI single from freshman Aleana Aionaaka in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to two.
 
Valley City added three runs in the bottom of the fourth, and despite the Argos pushing a run across in the top of the fifth, the Vikings scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth as UP fell to the Vikings 10-2.
 
In game two the Argos pushed the first runners across in the top of the second when senior Tiffany Fuentes singled to right field, but the Vikings answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to take a one-run lead.
 
The Argos did not go away tying the game in the top of the third when Aionaaka crossed home on a wild pitch, but the Vikings added a run in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead.
 
The Argos rallied in the top of the fifth with a two RBI single from junior Tehneson Ehnes, and following a scoreless sixth inning, UP added four runs in the top of the seventh with an RBI double from junior Kasidy Yeoman, an RBI single from Ehnes, and a two-run home run from junior Alix Bishop to put UP in front 8-3.
 
The Vikings put a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but A. Bishop slammed the door throwing all seven innings to secure the Argos 8-3 victory. A. Bishop also hit her 12th home run of the year which set a new program record for the most home runs in a single season.
