SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- The University of Providence softball program defeated Dakota State 7-3 and 7-4 to take the series over the Trojans on Friday.
 
In game one the Argos (17-16) pushed the first runs across in the top of the first when junior Tehneson Ehnes hit a two-run home run to right field.
 
The Argos continued their momentum in the top of the third when junior Kasidy Yeoman tallied an RBI scoring freshman Aleana Aionaaka and Ehnes hit her second home run of the game to put UP in front 4-0.
 
The Trojans (9-23) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but in the top of the fifth Ehnes doubled to left to score Aionaaka for her fourth RBI of the game and junior Alix Bishop followed with an RBI double to left to give UP a 6-2 edge.
 
Both teams added a run down the stretch but A. Bishop threw all seven innings with five strikeouts as the Argos defeated Dakota State 7-3.
 
In game two the Argos scored the first runs of the contest in the top of the second when sophomore Madison Moultray hit an RBI triple to right and senior Tiffany Fuentes hit Moultray in with a SAC fly to put UP ahead 2-0.
 
The Argos did not go away adding a run in the top of the third with an RBI single from A. Bishop, but the Trojans answered with two runs in the bottom half to cut the UP lead to one.
 
UP added a pair of runs in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from Yeoman, but Dakota State did not lay down adding a pair of runs over the next two innings to keep the game within one.
 
UP added a few insurance runs in the top of the sixth behind an RBI double from Ehnes and a solo home run from A. Bishop to push the lead to three, and despite the Trojans getting the tying runner to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, Moultray slammed the door pitching all seven innings for her ninth win of the season as UP defeated Dakota State 7-4.
