ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -- The University of Providence women's soccer
program fell to Soka University 4-0 Tuesday afternoon.
The Argos (0-1) had the first chance of the game when a header from sophomore
Te'a Knighton found sophomore
Autumn Apana-Purcell just outside the box, but her shot was blocked by the Lions (1-1-1) defense.
Soka would add a goal in the 14
th minute to take a 1-0 lead, but a few minutes later freshman
Jaelyn Chandonnet had a good look at the goal, but her shot was tipped just over the net by the goalkeeper.
The Argos continued their momentum with a pair of shots from senior
Shea Waters and Apana-Purcell in the final 10 minutes, but UP could find the equalizer as the Argos went into the break trailing 1-0.
Both sides went back-and-forth to begin the second half, but Soka would add a goal in the 55
th minute and a penalty shot in the 64
th minute to take a 3-0 lead.
The Lions extended their lead to four in the 70
th minute, and despite a late chance for Waters, UP fell to Soka University 4-0.
The Argos will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 3 when they head to Riverside, Calif. for a matchup with La Sierra University at 8:00 p.m. (MST).
