BUTTE, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program defeated #24 Montana Tech 3-1 Friday night.
In the first set the Orediggers (11-3) jumped out to a 13-point lead but the Argos (11-4) answered with a kill from senior
Cabry Badley and a pair of aces from freshman
Bree MacDonald to bring the set within eight. Montana Tech traded points the rest of the set as the Orediggers took set one 25-13. Â
In set two both teams went back-and-forth with neither side gaining a lead by more than two culminating at a tie at 18. The Orediggers took control over the next few points getting out to a 22-19 lead, but the Argos answered with kills from Badley and junior
Kendall Picolet tied the set at 24. UP continued their momentum with back-to-back kills from Badley to secure the second set for the Argos 26-24.
In the third set the Orediggers got out to an early 10-4 lead, but the Argos stormed back with an 11-2 run behind kills from Badley and MacDonald to put UP in front 16-13. Montana Tech slowly cut into the lead bringing the set to a tie at 20, and following ties at 21 and 22, the Argos scored the final three points of the set with a block from Picolet and Badley securing the third for UP 25-22.
In the fourth set both teams traded points until a 4-1 stretch behind a kill from Badley and an ace from sophomore
Araleigh Arnold put UP in front 12-8. The Argos maintained that lead over the next 12 points until kills from MacDonald and Picolet gave UP a 21-15 edge. Â The Argos traded points the rest of the way with a kill from MacDonald securing the fourth set for UP 25-18, and the match 3-1.
Cabry Badley led the way for the Argos with 14 kills while
Karolina Karabasz and
Martyna Fiedler added eight apiece.
The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 26 when they head to Dillon, Mont. for a matchup against Montana Western at 2:00pm.
