Argos Defeat Rocky Mountain College in Frontier Conference Clash

BILLINGS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program defeated Rocky Mountain College 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

In the first set both teams traded points until a 12-2 run from the Argos (6-2) behind kills from senior Martyna Fiedler, junior Kendall Picolet, and sophomore Kya Stanley put UP in front 22-12. The Battlin' Bears (2-4) did not go away bringing the set within two, but a kill from senior Cabry Badley secured the first set for UP 25-22.

In set two the Argos jumped out to a 10-4 lead off kills from junior Karolina Karabasz and Picolet but a 9-2 run from the Battlin' Bears put Rocky Mountain College ahead 20-16. The Argos brought the set within one behind a pair of kills from Badley, but the Battlin' Bears scored the final two points of the set as Rocky Mountain took the second 25-22.

In the third set both teams went back-and-forth until a 7-2 run behind kills from Fiedler and Picolet put UP ahead 17-12. Rocky Mountain slowly cut into the lead bringing the set within one, but a kill from freshman Bree MacDonald secured the third for UP 25-23.

In set four the Argos scored seven of the first 10 points off kills from Fiedler and Badley, but the Battlin' Bears stormed back with a 6-2 run to tie the set at nine. Both sides traded runs until a 6-2 stretch from the Argos behind kills from Fiedler and Stanley put UP in front 21-16. The Argos maintained that edge the rest of the way with a kill from Picolet securing the fourth set for UP 25-21, and the match 3-1.

Martyna Fiedler and Kendall Picolet led the way for the Argos with 13 and 12 kills while Araleigh Arnold tallied 36 assists and 17 digs.

The Argos will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 9 when they head to Havre, Mont. for a matchup with MSU-Northern at 7:00 p.m.
