Schlosser, Rashid Lead Argos to One Win, One Loss

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The eight rank Argos won one and lost one in a two dual night inside the McLaughlin Center. UGF defeated Northwest College (Wyo.) 28-17 thanks to two late pins, while the Argos let a win slip away against (13) Southern Oregon University, losing 22-14.

The night started off with UGF against the Trappers of Northwest College and the Argo's top wrestler, second ranked Luke Schlosser, didn't disappoint. The senior won by fall (4:50) to get UGF started with an early 6-0 lead. The third ranked wrester in the country at 133, Clinton Garvin, extended that lead with a 4-1 win by decision.

Then things got a little interesting for the Argos. A loss by technical fall and two losses by decision put UGF down 11-9 halfway through the dual. UGF's fifth ranked junior at 165, Kaldoon Rashid, earned three points with a 6-3 decision to briefly give his team the lead, but a pin for the Trappers at 174 again left the Argos trailing, this time 17-12.

That five point deficit was almost made up for by senior Taylor Vaughn at 184. The eighth ranked wrestler nationally won by major decision 9-1.

The next two matches sealed it for Great Falls, with both Sam Voigtlaender at 197 and Andreas Geranios at 285 earning pins. Voigtlaender won by fall at 4:10, while Geranios fall came at 4:10.

With the Trappers having decisively handled the Southern Oregon Raiders earlier in the night, it seemed like the Argos would be able to come away with another win. That feeling continued in the first match as Schlosser again dominated his opponent, this time winning by major decision, 13-3.

After that, things didn't go as planned. The big momentum shift came at 133 as third ranked Garvin lost by fall (2:55). UGF went on to loss the following three matches by either decision or major decision.

The bleeding was stopped by Rashid, who won by major decision 10-2 and was followed by outstanding performance from sophomore Jacob Wharton at 174. Wharton recovered from being pinned against the Trappers to defeat 16th ranked Oscar Flores from SOU by a 9-2 decision.

The next two matches resulted in decision losses for UGF and a 5-3 decision win for Andreas Geranios wasn't enough to overcome the 11 point deficit.

UGF won't have much time to lick their wounds as they travel to Spokane, Washington for the Spokane open on Sunday, November 22 at 8 a.m.
