KIRKLAND, Wash. – For the second straight game, Lady Argo soccer took one of the Cascade Collegiate Conference's top teams deep into overtime, only to lose on a heartbreaking shot. UGF held the 7-4 (3-2) Eagles scoreless in regulation and the first overtime period, but a free kick from 35 yards out in the 103rd minute landed perfectly in the right side of the Great Fall's net to end the game 1-0 OT.
Some intense wind and rain made the conditions difficult for both teams, with players struggling to find their footing and long shots getting altered by the wind.
Despite the adverse conditions, the NU Eagles kept constant pressure on the UGF net, getting off 10 shots to just 2 for the Lady Argos. One of those shots for UGF was a quality chance from freshman
Eme McLaughlin who put the shot on goal but was saved by the NU goalkeeper.
The Lady Argos wouldn't get another shot on goal until the first overtime period and in the meantime faced another 17 shots from NU in the second half. Eight of the Eagle's 27 shots in regulation were put on net and UGF's goalkeeper, redshirt-junior
Kyra Dorvall, was up to the task each time.
Right as the first overtime period started, senior midfielder
Katelyn Duncan UGF's second shot on goal, making the Eagle's keeper make her second save of the game in the 92nd minute. The rest of overtime was mostly spent inside UGF's half of the field, but as overtime went the Lady Argos mostly limited the Eagles to long shots from outside the penalty box.
That description fit an NU free kick at the 102 mark which was taken from the center of the field and about 35 yards out. The kick, taken by Tatyana Reveles made it over the wall and dipped into the right corner of the Lady Argo net to end the game 1-0.
Dorvall finished with 11 saves, her second consecutive contest with double-digit saves. She had 12 in UGF's 2-1OT loss to Carroll College in the team's pervious game.
The game was the third straight overtime game for the Lady Argos and brings the team's record to 2-9 (2-6). UGF will look for a much needed win against Evergreen State College who currently sits at the bottom of the CCC standings with a record of 2-5-1 (0-4-1). The two teams will play in Olympia, Wash., on October 15 at 2 p.m. MT.
