CHENEY, Wash. – Some red-hot shooting, helped Argo basketball win the second half 54-52 against NCAA Division I foe Eastern Washington University, but that wasn't enough to overcome a 29-point first half deficit, losing to EWU 103-76.
The Argos struggled to make shots against the Eagle's defense, making just seven shots from the floor, for a percentage of 28 through the first 20 minutes. It was much easier for Eastern Washington.
Shots went down seemingly effortlessly all night for the Eagles who shot 52.9 percent in the first half and an even more blistering 65 percent in the second half.
While UGF couldn't keep pace in the first, the Argo shooters matched the Eagles in the second, shooting 62.5 percent. The game turned into an ultimately defenseless contest, as both teams scored over 50 points in the final 20 minutes.
Three Argos scored in double digits, led by junior guard
Davone Oliver Jr. who was the major source of offense for UGF in the first half, starting the game 3-3 from 3-point range. Oliver finished with a team leading 15 points off 6-10 shooting from the field.
Fellow junior
Tymarieh Dixon followed up a 15-point scoring night against NCAA DI Utah State University two nights earlier with a 14-point performance against the Eagles. Dixon again effectively drove the lane, converting on 6 of 13 shooting attempts. He also pulled down 5 rebounds, which was good for second on the team.
The other big scorer for the Argos was junior
Jared Schultz, one of the two heroes from UGF's last second win against Montana Tech a week earlier. Schultz finished with 14 points and 3 assists.
The other hero from that Montana Tech game was sophomore
Jarred Burr. Burr entered the game as the team's assist leader, and he continued to dish the ball well against tough competition, finishing with 5 assists to go with 8 points.
This was another exhibition game for the Argos, the second of three against NCAA DI teams in a six-day period. The third and final contest of the road trip will be against Seattle University on December 10 at 7 p.m.
