SALEM, Ore. – For the first time this season, UGF women's soccer drew first blood against an opponent and for the first time, didn't trail at the end of regulation, but an overtime goal gave Corban University a 2-1 victory over the Lady Argos.
UGF's goal came from junior midfielder
Serafina Robles, who returned from an injury to score her second goal in just over 100 minutes of action this season. Robles came off the bench, subbing in in the 23rd minute and played the rest of the game. Her biggest impact came in the 55th minute when she received a throw-in from junior midfielder
Sydney Knieriem, controlled the ball, and scored to give UGF a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Argos held that lead for 20 minutes but let in the equalizer in the 75th minute. Both teams pushed hard for a regulation winner over the next 15 minutes but neither side could break the tie.
In overtime, the Warriors came out firing, controlling the ball and firing five shots towards the UGF net to the Lady Argo's 0. Still, the first overtime period went scoreless but in the second and final overtime period, battering ram broke through. With three minutes left till a draw would be declared, the Warriors found the net for the second time, ending the game with a 2-1 lead.
Robles not only had UGF's lone goal, but that effort was one of just three shots on goal all game for the Lady Argos. The other two came from freshman
Eme McLaughlin, who continues to look dangerous without yet scoring her first collegiate goal.
The Lady Argos drop to 0-4 (0-1) on the season and will look for the team's first win against Northwest Christian on Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. MT in Springfield, Ore.
