HELENA, Mont. – Argo volleyball fell in a five-set thriller to Carroll College on Saturday evening to close out their near month-long road trip, 3-2 (28-26, 22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-17).

The Saints opened the first set to a 5-2 lead, but the Argos closed the gap quickly as they tied things up at 5. The Saints and Argos would both score five points to remain at a standstill at 10 all. However, the Saints would then score five unanswered points to hold a 15-10 advantage. The Argos responded following a kill from
Sydney Andersen to spark an 8-3 run to close the deficit and once again tie up the match at 18-18. A Saints attack error and four kills from
Kelsey Shaver put the Argos up 23-22, but the Saints collected two more kills to put themselves into set point. The Argos responded with two kills of their own to lead, 26-25. Carroll tied the match one final time at 26 following a kill, but the Argos hot hitting closed out the set as two kills sealed the 28-26 win.
The Argos took an early lead in the second set as they claimed a 6-4 lead. The lead was short lived however as the Saints went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-6 advantage. The Saints padded their lead as they outscored the Argos 7-5 to push their lead to 19-11. Following a Saint attack error, the Argos went on a run of their own to cut the deficit to three, 20-17. The Saints then scored four unanswered to earn set point, 24-17. Five-straight points from the Argos closed the gap to two, 24-22, but an Argo attack error ended the set and tied the match up at one.
The Saints took the first lead of the third set and didn't relinquish the lead. The Argos would eventually pull within two, 22-20, but the Saints closed out the set on two kills and an Argo attack error to take a 2-1 advantage into the fourth set.
The fourth set began in the Argos' favor as they took a 7-5 lead to open the set. The Saints responded to lead 8-7, but an 11-3 Argo run pushed their lead to 18-11. The Saints reduced the deficit to 22-19, but two kills from Andersen and one from Shaver seal the set and prepared the match for a final decisive fifth set.
The Saints grabbed a 5-3 lead to open the final set, but the Argos responded with a 5-3 run to take the lead at 8-7. The Argos would hold a 11-9 advantage before the Saints tied things up at 11. Both squads traded points to a 13-12 Argo advantage, before the Saints would take a 14-13 lead. The Argos tallied two of their own to hold the advantage, 15-14, but the Saints were able to close things out following two kills and an attack error to take the match.
The Argos return to the McLaughlin Center on November 2 as they take on the Montana Western Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
