Three-Goal First Period Elevates Argos to Top Mid-America Christian

BILLINGS, Mont. – A three-goal first period lifted the Argos to their first win of the season as they topped Mid-America Christian University 4-1 on Saturday.

Providence started things early as Eme McLaughlin delivered a ball to Alexis Cavalier who placed the ball perfectly in the right corner of the net to take an early 1-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of play. In the 38th minute, McLaughlin tallied a goal of her own which was delivered by Malena Lennon to push the Argos lead to 2-0. A minute and 10 seconds later the Argos increased their lead yet again as McLaughlin tallied her second goal of the match after handling a ball from Sydney Knieriem. The Argos carried the 3-0 lead into the halftime.

Providence outshot the Evangels 9-4 but both squads earned two corner kicks during the opening period.

During the final period, the Evangels knocked down their first goal of the matchup within the first five minutes of play to bring the deficit back to two, 3-1. In the 65th minute, Lennon added an insurance goal for the Argos as she scored unassisted to push the lead back to three and seal the win for the Argos.

Providence continued to out shoot the Evangels in the second period, 8-6, in addition to tying Mid-America Christian with one corner kick each as well.
