BILLINGS, Mont. – Argo women's soccer (2-1) earned their second win of their Labor Day weekend and their first extra-minutes match of the season Monday as they defeated Briar Cliff University, 2-1, following a second-half rally in which the Argos maintained strong control over possession and outshot the Chargers, 11-4.
The Argos dominated possession during the game as they outshot the Chargers 23-8. During the first period, the Argos had trouble getting their shots to fall as only four of their eight shots were on target, all of which were saved. The Chargers on the other hand found success with their third shot of the period in the 42
nd minute as Sonja Rao found the net to put Briar Cliff on top headed into halftime.
The second half was much different as the Argos had three of their first four shots of the period on target and the fourth one from
Malena Lennon to
Eme McLaughlin tied things up. Providence continued to outshoot the Chargers 7-4 to close out regulation.
Overtime was representative of the rest of the game for the Argos. Lennon capped of the Argos fourth shot as she connected with the net to claim the Argos their second win of the season.
McLaughlin had stellar game as she took nearly half of the team's shots, 11-of-23, with more than half on goal and a goal.
Sydney Knieriem had three shots all on target, while Lennon had two shots, both on target and a goal.
